Selvaggia Velo is the festival director of River to River Florence Indian Film Festival, which was founded in 2001 in Florence, Italy, as the first festival in the world – out of India – totally devoted to films from and about India. Combining the passion for India and cinema, the organizers chose a festival name that is representing the flowing of cultures, ideas and cinema, from one river to the other: from the Ganges to the Arno, River to River. The 20th festival edition will take place from 3rd to 8th of December 2020. During Corona Pandemic Selvaggia Velo startet a regular live show on Facebook and You Tube called: River to River Chai Time.
Cary Rajinder Sawhney is the Executive & Programming Director of London Indian Film Festival (LIFF). LIFF and Birmingham Indian Film Festival (BIFF) together make up Europe’s largest Indian film festival. Over the last 10 years they have garnered a reputation as the ‘Punk Rock of Indian Film festivals’, presenting a cutting-edge selection of the very best new independent cinema from the Indian subcontinent and its worldwide diaspora. This year LIFF and BIFF joined forces to offer an online festival, LOVE LIFF AT HOME, a unique showcase of films and “In Conversation” interviews by leading South Asian talent.
We will talk with Selvaggia and Cary about the challenging times during Corona Pandemic, the effects on film production and film festivals as well as try to look into the future of cultural exchange between India and Europe as well as the film world “after” Corona Pandemic.
