Shivudu (Prabhas) wurde als Säugling in einem Fluss gefunden, aber die Frau, die ihn aufzog, behandelte ihn wie ihren eigenen Sohn. Als ihm dann eines Tages die Maske einer Kriegerin vor die Füße fällt, führt diese ihn zurück in seine eigentliche Heimat und zu einem alten Konflikt. Die Besitzerin der Maske, Avanthika (Tamannaah), soll nämlich die gefangen gehaltene Königin Devasena (Anushka Shetty) aus dem Königreich Mahishmati befreien. Seit 25 Jahren wartet diese auf die Rückkehr ihres totgeglaubten Sohnes Baahubali – so Shivudus richtiger Name. Auf dem Thron hat es sich derweil der brutale Bhallala Deva (Rana Daggubati) bequem gemacht, der Cousin von Baahubalis gerechtem Vater. Dieser will mit allen Mitteln an der Macht bleiben. Dementsprechend geschockt ist er auch, als seine gepeinigten Untertanen plötzlich vermehrt „Baahubali!“ rufen…
Um Kult-Regisseur S. S. Rajamouli hat sich in Indien ein solcher Hype entwickelt, dass der erste Teil seines neuen Historien-Märchens sogar allein in der auf Hindi synchronisierten Fassung die 100-Crore-Marke geknackt hat, obwohl die regionalen Stars für Bollywood-Zuschauer eher unbekannt sind. Hinzu kommen die Einnahmen in anderen Sprachen: Auf Telugu, Tamil und Malayalam begeisterte Baahubali das indische Publikum.

Shivudu (Prabhas) is the actual successor of the kingdom known as Mahishmati. But unfortunately, he becomes a victim of various internal conspiracies. But fortunately, Sivagami (Ramya Krishna) saves him from the cruel hands. Later, he is raised by a tribe on the hills.
After growing up into a handsome young man, Shivudu gets attracted to Avantika (Tamanna). Well, who is this Avantika? She is a rebel of a kingdom ruled by Bhallaldeva (Rana). She is in fact shown as a guerrilla-rebel group that fights against the atrocities of the kingdom ruled by Bhallaldeva.
The main target of Avantika is to save Devasena (Anushka) from the hands of Bhallaldeva. Shivudu who falls in love with Avantika takes the responsibility of saving Devasena. He travels to the kingdom where Devasena is being slaved and tortured.
To his surprise, the moment people notice him in that kingdom, they call him ‘Bahubali’. He goes clueless about why people are treating him like god and Shivudu rescues Devasene and After meeting Kattappa (Sathyaraj), Shivudu comes to know about Bahubali and why there is enmity between him and Bhallaldeva. The rest must be watched on the screen.
